Trust has a new epilepsy adviser

Maria Lowe has been appointed Hamilton epilepsy adviser for the Epilepsy Waikato Charitable Trust.

Her role will include providing advice to people with epilepsy and their families, coordinating social activities and peer-to-peer support through EWCT’s Epilepsy Club.

She will also provide educational talks and workshops on epilepsy to various organisations including schools, sports clubs, and community groups, and organise public seminars.

An experienced teacher, Mrs Lowe has previous experience as an epilepsy adviser in the Waikato and is looking forward to her new role.

The EWCT was formed in late 2011 and is fundraising to help people with epilepsy, developing a website to provide educational material and information for its members and the general public.

As part of EWCT’s seminar series for 2013, St John ambulance officers Christine North and Matthew Gough in Hamilton will talk on Thursday, May 16, about epilepsy and first aid, including the potential use of personal alarms in the home.

The talk starts at 7pm at the main St John headquarters, 63 Seddon Rd, Hamilton (near Seddon Park cricket ground). Admission free.
